How to Calculate Hours Between Times
Convert to 24-hour format, subtract start from end. If end is earlier, add 24 hours (crossing midnight). Then subtract break time.
Time Math Tips
- 15 min = 0.25 hrs | 30 min = 0.5 hrs | 45 min = 0.75 hrs
- For payroll, round to nearest quarter hour
- Cross-midnight: 10 PM to 6 AM = 8 hours
Common Work Hours
- 9 AM to 5 PM = 8 hours | 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM = 9 hours
- 7 AM to 3:30 PM = 8.5 hours | 11 PM to 7 AM = 8 hours (overnight)
